Lake Streeters turned out on a blustery afternoon May 15 to celebrate the kickoff of construction on Lake Street. The event, held on Lake Street at 13th Ave., featured diverse entertainment acts, free food and drinks, appearances by local elected officials, an old city bus and more.

Entertainment included: Drum Heart, South High Jazz Combo, Jack Brass Band, the Sabathanites, Annishanabe Drummers, Fuego Latino, and Mahad. Taleeh restaurant and Carne Asada provided food.

The event was sponsored by: Midtown Community Works, Lake Street Council and Powderhorn Park Neighborhood Association with assistance from Latino Economic Development Center and African Development Center.

Beginning May 16, Lake Street is under construction from Chicago Ave. to 13th Ave. In this zone, the southern side of Lake is closed and traffic flow is restricted to one lane in each direction. The project will next move to the south side of Lake Street from Chicago Ave. to 5th Ave. More on the construction
